This poem examines the passion of an amateur and follows the romance of partaking in a hobby that she is not qualified to pursue as a profession. It is bittersweet and nostalgic, but she is grateful nevertheless to have been a star at least once.

i lost some of her defiance

It shattered her to realize that the assessment's prompt had already determined the answer that she would write. Young and idealistic, and with a great belief in authenticity, she resorted to humble cooperation with no small degree of suffering.

It is the dream of this author to be read, admired, and studied. Even though Sappho's writing pen had crumbled and faded away for millennia, her poetry did not fail to strike a chord. And this author wonder if she, in spite of her youth and inexperience, may make her mark too.

good coward

There are so many stories about the gallant knight who risks his life for loyalty, for honor. He makes the biggest sacrifice, and undertakes the worst pain, so that his king may be adorned with feats.
And what does he get in return? What does his wife, his dependents receive as recompense? To be buried, canonized, then forgotten?

every time i breathe the air

Why must it be cold when the most cruel feelings insist upon being relived? Does physical cold, in its unbearable loneliness, call the heart's frost to wake?
Walking along this empty road, and looking out into the frozen lake, I think bitterly about what might have been. Because no one had gotten on as well as we had. But it was not until we had come past the point of return, that I realized I was not the first.

But she knew she was more in love with him than he was with her. And she would play by his rules, even if they violated her own.
